Out-of-State Transport
Partnering with rescues across the country to place adoptable dogs where they're needed most.
What Is Out-of-State Transport?
Most people don't realize that the dog or cat available for adoption at a shelter in Wisconsin or Connecticut may have started their journey in Texas.
Out-of-state transport is exactly what it sounds like: animals are moved from shelters in regions with more animals than homes to communities in other parts of the country where the demand for adoptable pets is higher.
When GCHS can't find a local placement fast enough, our partner rescues and shelters in other states step up to the plate to find these pets a new home. Is your organization ready to join us?

How the Program Works
Our transport program is built on clear steps and trusted partnerships with our receiving shelters and rescues.
-
1
Receiving organization selects pets
Browse our available animals or work with our transport team to match pets that are a right fit for your organization.
-
2
We prep them
Most often, the pets that you are selecting are ready to go. We'll make sure that each pet is medically and behaviorally cleared prior to transport.
-
3
Licensed transport
Our transportation partners drive or fly our animals where they need to go. Have your own transportation? We can accommodate that as well.
-
4
You receive and place
Pets arrive vetted and ready for foster or adoption placement.
Our Standards
Every dog in our transport program meets a clear set of standards so your rescue knows exactly what's arriving.
Dog-friendly
All transport candidates are confirmed to be good with other dogs.
Fully Vetted
Vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and medically and behaviorally cleared prior to transport.
Treated for Heartworm Disease
We treat all heartworm positive dogs, and most dogs receive ProHeart prevention upon intake.
Clear Communication
Transport records are well maintained and communication is consistent and clear.

Why Partner With GCHS
We know rescues have options when choosing transport partners. Here's what makes GCHS different.
High standard of care
Pets in our care are completely vetted and ready to go before transport, but we also provide care beyond the basics — often providing heartworm treatment, dental work, orthopedic care, and more for animals that need it.
Pre-advertise our pets
Not ready to receive? We encourage you to share potential transport pets on your website to find fosters or adopters in your area before committing.
Reliable and experienced partners
In addition to our onsite transport team, we have established, trusted transporters running reliable routes. Our transports run smoothly and without drama. We are always transparent with our receiving shelters, and will make every call in the best interest of the animals.
Ready to Receive Pets from GCHS?
If your organization is located in a region with consistent adoption demand and capacity to receive animals, we'd like to hear from you.
We recognize that the landscape is competitive and that no organization has unlimited capacity. We're looking for partners who are honest about what they can take and when — just as we'll be honest with you.
