Before Adoption: Think About Your Perfect Match
Before you start looking at adorable faces, take a moment to think about what you're hoping for in a pet and how a pet will fit into your daily life.
Ask yourself a few questions:
- Are you looking for a cuddle buddy who wants to spend every evening by your side?
- Do you want an active companion for walks, hikes, or outdoor adventures?
- Would a laid-back couch potato fit your lifestyle better?
- Are you looking for a pet that is more independent and comfortable entertaining themselves?
- How much time can you realistically dedicate to a new pet each day?
Puppies are adorable, but they require a significant amount of time, patience, training, supervision, and socialization as they grow. Young animals often need frequent potty breaks, basic obedience training, and lots of attention.
Adult dogs and many cats are often a great choice for families with busier schedules. Their personalities are already developed, they typically require less training, and they can often adjust to new homes more quickly.
There is no "perfect" pet, only the pet that is perfect for your lifestyle. Taking a few minutes to think about your expectations before visiting can help our Adoption Counselors guide you toward a successful, lifelong match!
The Adoption Process
Visit the Shelter
All adoptions are completed in person and on a first-come, first-served basis. We are unable to place holds on available animals, so if you see a pet you're interested in, we encourage you to visit as soon as possible! Our website photo gallery is updated in real time, so any pet you see online is currently available. No appointment is necessary — simply stop by during our adoption hours.
Complete an Adoption Inquiry Form
Before visiting, you may choose to complete our Adoption Inquiry Form online, or fill it out when you arrive. Completing it ahead of time helps speed things up, but it does not place a hold on any animal, reserve your place in line, or require approval before visiting. There are no additional steps required before coming in to meet our pets.

Finding the right pet is about more than just a photo. When you arrive, our Adoption Counselors will learn about what you're looking for and help introduce you to pets that may be a great match. We strongly encourage bringing all members of the household, including children. Already have a dog at home? Ask about scheduling a dog-to-dog meet and greet during your visit.
Complete Your Adoption
Once you've found your perfect match, our team will walk you through the process, answer any remaining questions, and review our adoption agreement. All paperwork is completed digitally and can be sent directly to your phone for easy review and electronic signature. After that, it's time to head home with your new best friend and start your next adventure together!
